Gut Healing Strategy

When I began connecting the dots in my health story, I realized I had been struggling with gut-related issues for more than thirty-five years. Based on what I’ve learned since, this suggests a long-standing pattern of inflammation. While I was never formally diagnosed at the time, my own reflection and research led me to believe that this inflammation may have been present throughout much of my adult life. Because chronic digestive inflammation can interfere with the absorption of essential nutrients and enzymes, I began to understand my symptoms through the lens of possible malabsorption.

Learn how the bacteria in your gut are impacting your body. Get food and probiotic recommendations to support your digestion, mental health, immunity, and more by purchasing a gut microbiome test through Ombre Labs.

When the gut is chronically inflamed, it can affect far more than digestion. Research has shown strong connections between gut health and mental well-being, including symptoms of anxiety and depression. To support healing and reduce inflammation, I removed foods widely recognized as inflammatory from my diet.

I learned that even a single course of antibiotics can significantly disrupt the gut microbiome. While the body can rebalance over time, repeated or poorly supported disruptions may contribute to long-term imbalance. When this balance is compromised, organisms such as Candida and certain parasites can proliferate more easily.

Bacteria and other microbes in the human body rival, and may even exceed, the number of human cells. Rather than being separate from us, they are essential partners in our biology. Without a healthy microbiome, the body cannot function optimally. Beneficial bacteria support immune function and play a critical role in digestion, nutrient processing, and absorption.

The microbiome reflects how we live. When we support our bodies with healthier habits, that care is often reflected in the balance of our microbiome.
