Reduce Inflammation

Green Smoothie

Prolonged gut inflammation can damage the GI tract and can express itself as Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), which can lead to Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Chronic inflammation can cause the following health issues:

  • Malabsorption

  • Irregular blood sugar

  • Chronic constipation, aka IBS-C

  • Nausea

  • Fatigue

  • Irregular periods

  • Acne

  • PMS

When the gut is inflamed, it can lead to a cascade of health issues, including mental health issues like depression and anxiety. To reduce inflammation, I removed known inflammatory foods from my diet:

  • Processed food

  • Sugar

  • Alcohol

  • Grains

  • Gluten

Since gluten can cause sensitivity, I avoided bread and pasta. I increased anti-inflammatory foods that were high fiber food like fruits and vegetables and added healthy fats:

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Butter from grass-fed cows

  • Avocados

  • Nuts and seeds

  • Coconut oil

  • Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil

  • Chia seeds

  • Hemp seed oil and hemp seeds

Another way I reduced inflammation was to add a prebiotic and probiotics. Because inflammation can interfere with the stomach’s ability to make the proper digestive enzymes to digest food, I started taking digestive enzymes with meals.

When I eat meat, I buy the highest quality, meaning grass-fed and pasture-raised or wild-caught fish, and I take HCL with pepsin. “HCl secretion in the stomach does several positive things. It assists protein digestion by activating pepsinogen to pepsin, and it renders the stomach sterile against ingested pathogens; it inhibits undesirable overgrowth in the small intestine. It encourages the flow of bile and pancreatic enzymes.” – Thorne. If you eat raw sushi or pork, you especially want to take HCL because it “renders the stomach sterile against ingested pathogens.” Click here for the one I use.

After reading about the gut harming damage antibiotics, Tylenol and Advil have on the gut, I no longer take NSAIDs but instead use curcumin to treat discomfort or pain. Click here to read what causes a leaky gut. To read about eradicating Candida and parasites, click the button below.
