A Play-based Guide to Meeting Unmet Needs

These activities are invitations — ways development naturally expresses itself when safety and presence are available. 

 

Age 0-7: Root Chakra (Safety, Grounding, Physical Trust)

 

Developmental Focus:

  • Body safety

  • Rhythm

  • Sensory regulation

  • Trust in the environment

Supportive Experiences:

  • Gross motor play: running, climbing, crawling, animal walks

  • Sensory grounding: sand, water, mud, grass, weighted objects

  • Predictable routines, repetition, simple physical tasks

  • Rocking, walking, drumming, dancing

Re-parenting Translation:

  • Walking meditation

  • Somatic grounding

  • Gentle strength-building

  • Nature contact

 

Age 8-14: Sacral Chakra (Connection, Pleasure, Emotional Flow)

 

Developmental Focus:

  • Emotional expression

  • Relational play

  • Creativity

  • Enjoyment without performance

Supportive Experiences:

  • Pretend play, dolls, puppets, role-play

  • Art, music, free movement

  • Water play

  • Storytelling and imaginative worlds

Re-parenting Translation:

  • Creative play without outcome

  • Emotional expression through art

  • Permission to enjoy

 

Age 15-21: Solar Plexus Chakra (Autonomy, Agency, Self-Trust)

  • Choice

  • Initiative

  • Competence

  • Healthy frustration

Supportive Experiences:

  • Puzzles, building, board games

  • Helping with cooking or simple tasks

  • Problem-solving games

  • Learning rules and boundaries through play

  • Small achievable goals

  • Skill-building without pressure

  • Practicing “I choose.”

 

Age 22-28: Heart Chakra (Attachment, Empathy, Belonging)
