Non-Dominant Handwriting Instructions

Hands Forming Heart

Dialoging is talking with your inner child and caring for them nonverbally through journaling. It’s an exchange between you.

In the morning, upon waking

  1. Using your dominant hand, write, "How are you feeling?"

  2. With your non-dominant hand, write down the feeling that comes to mind.

  3. Ask them how old they are, then write it down with your non-dominant hand.

  4. Using your dominant hand, acknowledge them by recalling a memory from that time. Example, "What can you tell me about that time?"

  5. Freely write everything that comes to mind using your non-dominant hand.

  6. Ask them what they need, allow them to answer using your non-dominant hand, and then do your best to meet that need. Click here for a Developmental Nourishment guide.

Maintaining Connection

During the day, when triggered, ask, “How old are you?” When they respond, co-regulate using warm, responsive, and supportive words and actions, like tapping or placing your hand on your chest or the base of your throat.
